Bait Boards for Small Boats & Dinghies
Compact 600–700mm fibreglass bait boards for the small aluminium boats, dinghies and kayaks that do most of New Zealand's inshore fishing. Same SeaKing build as our larger boards — integrated sink, 316 marine stainless hardware, UV-resistant cutting surface — sized to fit a tight deck without taking it over. Prices are in NZD and include free delivery anywhere in New Zealand.
Why a smaller bait board makes sense on a dinghy
The biggest mistake first-time bait-board buyers make on a small boat is sizing up. A 900mm offshore-grade board is overkill on a 4m dinghy — it eats deck space, makes moving around awkward, and does not actually improve your fishing. For a small boat the sweet spot is the 600–700mm range: enough working surface for snapper, kahawai and gurnard, while leaving room to move when the fish are on.
Every board in this collection is designed for that brief. Compact footprint, full SeaKing build quality, and the same composite fibreglass construction that lasts decades on larger vessels. Contact us if you want a model match based on your specific boat, or browse the picks below.

Fitting a bait board to a small New Zealand boat
A lot of New Zealand fishing is done from boats in the four-to-five metre bracket, launched off a ramp or a beach and worked hard in harbours, estuaries and just outside the heads. That style of boat rewards a compact board: you want somewhere clean to deal with a snapper or a kahawai without giving up the deck room you need to actually fish two or three people.
Before ordering, measure the width of the transom shelf or gunnel rail you intend to mount to, and check the internal diameter of any existing rod-holder tubes if you plan to use a rod-holder mount. Those two numbers decide the fit more than the length of the boat does. Send them through with your make and model and we will tell you which of the boards below works — including if the answer is none of them.
Every price here is in New Zealand dollars with free delivery included, and boards are freighted from our Melbourne workshop, so allow roughly two to three weeks.
Small-boat bait boards built to last
The SeaKing range we supply at Bait Boards Direct is handcrafted from full composite fibreglass — the same material used in marine hull construction. That means a board that will not warp, swell, rot or delaminate in the saltwater and UV that New Zealand boats live in. The hardware is 316 marine-grade stainless steel throughout, including drain fittings and mounting bolts.
Boards in this collection are sized for vessels under 5 metres — kayaks, aluminium dinghies, small runabouts and inflatables. Each one includes an integrated sink with drain fitting, a UV-resistant PE cutting surface, and game-rated rod holders where the model includes them. Smaller does not mean compromised — it means right-sized.
